AccessNurse realizes that the quality of our service begins with highly qualified staff that are carefully selected by our management and Human Resources team through a formal process. Our Director of Education and Staff Development rigorously tests every applicant to ensure that we are hiring caring and competent individuals who will be committed to excellent service.
Our clinical team is comprised of licensed Registered Nurses. AccessNurse RNs must be able to be licensed in all states. We look for RNs with at least three years of inpatient experience with emphasis on pediatrics, OB and ED. They are pre-hire screened by our clinical staff and are tested for clinical competency, customer service and technical skills. RNs are also drug tested and must pass a national background check. They must successfully complete new employee orientation and be deemed competent in our customer service program.
Additionally, they must pass a clinical competency test and complete a credentialing process by our liability carrier.
Our non-clinical team is comprised of Patient Coordinators. AccessNurse Patient Coordinators (PCs) are tested for customer service and technical skill as part of the pre-hire process by clinical staff. Many are college graduates and have previous medical experience.
Patient calls are brand answered by a PC who obtains the reason for the call and gathers all demographic information. The PC then transfers all urgent/emergency calls directly to a RN. PCs place all other calls in a call-back queue based on the severity of each caller’s condition.
When an AccessNurse RN takes a patient call, they utilize sophisticated software with symptom-driven guidelines to triage the patient, ensuring the most appropriate outcome. The telephone triage nurse then provides care advice to the caller based on that outcome.
